Munni is second best to Sheila in 'item' battle
Munni is passe, Sheila is the new It Girl. That seems to be the buzz among Bollywood fans right now. In the fickle world of showbiz where trends change every Friday, Katrina Kaif's Sheila ki jawani jig in the upcoming Tees Maar Khan is clearly on its way to pipping Malaika Arora Khan's blockbuster Dabangg item dance Munni badnaam hui as the hottest song of the year.The two stars have said they don't want any competition or controversy, but the media has been hPublish Postappy to pit them against each other. And if fans' reaction on the cyberworld is anything to go by, Sheila has already upstaged Munni. YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and other websites are currently going all-out to establish whose is the top dance. Facebook's Sheila community boasts of 11,899 members while Munni has 3,862 fans.Comments on Facebook also indicate that Sheila is hotter with the masses. "Machli jal ki rani hai, jeevan uska pani hai, Munni ab purani hai, yaaron ab toh Sheila ki jawani hai!!)," goes an entry from Mohammad Tareq.A post by another Facebook user, Karthik, goes: " Munni badnam hui could have been a bigger hit if the lead dancer was Katrina." A rare difference in opinion comes from Dhiren: " Munni is hot, raunchy, seductive, energetic... desi yet classy... Katrina ka dance kuch English ho gaya." On YouTube, Sheila has already registered 10,29,108 views on a link uploaded only two weeks ago, although the full video is yet to be uploaded. In comparison , Munni has recorded 14,57,118 views on a link that was uploaded two months ago.Elsewhere, a radio channel conducted a poll on air recently that has seen Sheila draw 49 per cent votes, as opposed to Munni's44 per cent. The popular website Santabanta.com also conducted a poll over the two songs. While Munnipolled 41.49 per cent, Sheila is ahead with 58.51 per cent votes from around 1000 entries.It is easy to see why Sheila has an advantage. For one, Katrina is Bollywood's reigning queen right now, while Malaika is at best the top item dancer. Also, Tees Maar Khan director-choreographer Farah Khan's ploy to introduce lavish Broadway-style effects for Sheila ki Jawani seems to have clicked. Munni badnaam hui, on the other hand, is a regular item number with lots of energy.Interestingly, Malaika has always been acknowledged as a superb dancer while Katrina is not known for her dancing skills. For Sheila ki jawani,she worked hard, taking belly dancing lessons and shedding weight-with a new fitness and diet regime coupled with power yoga-for that toned look." Sheila ki jawani is a great fusion idea. It's like Bhojpuri-dance-number-meets-the-Broadway-musical. It is aesthetic and not vulgar. The camera is not panning her body in a cheap manner," Farah said recently.Asked about the Sheila number, Malaika said: "I haven't seen it but heard that it is really good. Since Farah choreographed Munni badnaam hui , too, I am sure she has given completely different treatment to the two songs."
