Directed by: Maneesh Sharma Produced by: Aditya Chopra Screenplay by: Habib Faisal Story by: Maneesh Sharma Starring: Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh Music by: Salim-Sulaiman Rating: ***1/2 One of Bollywood’s biggest production houses Yash Raj Films had for long not seen a successful movie which will live up to the audience expectations. So does their next venture Band Baaja Barat succeed in bringing the banner’s name back on the top or not, let us find out. Bittoo Sharma played by Ranveer Singh is a typical chilled out college lad of Delhi, living in a hostel, who hasn’t given his future any serious thoughts. During one of his reckless wedding crashes he bumps into Shruti Kakkar (that is Anushka Sharma) a middle class, no nonsense and ambitious Delhite who is in that event as an assistant to the wedding planner, from there stars the story of Ranveer and Anushka’s friendship where one funny incident leads to Shruti pursuing her dream of starting her own firm which plans weddings in partnership with Bittoo. The duo strikes gold but their peace is short lived, how the entire business starts falling apart due to the unexpected romance between the two and how they still manage to emerge victorious towards the end is what the film is all about. BBB doesn’t look like a debutant director’s product; Maneesh Sharma does a splendid job with his rather small budgeted film, and makes it look more real to life, his story coupled with Habib Faisal’s screenplay and dialogues make for an impressive debut. Though in the second half the movie loses its grip, the first half is very well paced, loaded with catchy lines and crazy Punjabi style humour, the chemistry between Ranveer and Anushka too is treated aesthetically. The songs which are already ruling the charts are all brilliantly shot, an apt background score, beautiful choreography by Vaibhavi Merchant and crisp editing by Namrata Rao makes it an irresistible package, Anushka Sharma plays her role of Shruti Kakkar with much zest, and debutant Ranveer Singh as Bitto Sharma has also performed nicely, other supporting actors and the whole team make this movie more than just a one time watch. Overall “Band Baaja Baaraat” has given YRF a reason to celebrate, it is a wedding extravaganza one would love to indulge in; Rating: ***1/2 |
